Dhirubhai Ambani was born on December 28, 1932 in Junagadh district of Gujarat, Dhirubhai Ambani's full name was Dheerajlal Hiralal Ambani.
Dhirubhai Ambani's father's was a teacher in a small village in Gujarat, but still Dhirubhai Ambani did not feel like studying, after class tenth, Dhirubhai Ambani left his studies and went to Yemen to work there. But he had got a job at a gas station, along with this, Dhirubhai Ambani started doing other things which could increase his income. In Yemen, he saw why the coins there were made of silver and those coins. The value was less, whereas the value of the silver from which it was made was more than that coin when Dhirubhai Ambani saw this, he started collecting a lot of coins and later started selling them by melting and selling them more. Dhirubhai Ambani lived in Yemen for 8 years before making profit, he returned to India in 1957 and in 1960, both Dhirubhai Ambani and his partner Champaklal Damani founded a company named Reliance Commercial Corporation. The story behind renaming Reliance was that When Dhirubhai Ambani used to work in Yemen, a friend of his had started a store shop there named Reliance and Dhirubhai also liked the name here, due to which he also named his company Reliance.
By 1965, the partnership of Reliance Commercial Corporation between Dhirubhai Ambani and Champaklal Damani had ended.
Dhirubhai Ambani started a new company in 1966 which was named Reliance Textiles.

Also known as Vimal Fabric Textile, Dhirubhai Ambani's communication skills and conveying skills were very good, due to which he had convened a lot of people for 1977 Reliance IOP because at that time most of the people were unaware of the stock market of investors in IPO. With the help, he had grown his business a lot, the main focus of Dhirubhai Ambani was in quality improvement.
Later Dhirubhai Ambani changed the name of Reliance Textile Company to Reliance Industries L.T.D in the year 1985.
By the end of the year 1995, Reliance along with NYNEX American telecommunications company had also entered the telecom sector, which was named Reliance Telecom pvt ltd.
When Reliance's IOB came out in 1977, the revenue of Reliance was around 70 crores but in 2002 the revenue of Reliance was around 75000 crores.
Dhirubhai Ambani died in Mumbai on July 6, 2002. After his death, Reliance was divided into two parts, some of which was divided with Mukesh Ambani and some part with Anil Ambani.
